Suitability
Suitability helps men feel prepared and confident for job interviews by providing smart clothing and practical guidance.
We work with local organisations to make referrals simple and fast, so candidates can focus on making the best impression.
A well‑fitted outfit and a boost in confidence can make all the difference at interview. Suitability exists to remove barriers and give people the tools to succeed.

Addressing unemployment in the North East
The North East has long faced higher unemployment rates compared to the UK average. Recent figures from the ONS show that the unemployment rate in our region is 1.6% higher than the national average, with an employment rate 5% lower and an economic inactivity rate 3.9% higher. Suitability by Society Matters aims to make a significant impact on male unemployment by providing equal pre-interview support for men and women alike.
A proven model
Our service is modelled on the highly successful Smart Works Newcastle, which has been operating in the region for almost seven years, offering interview clothing and coaching to women.
By extending similar support to men, we aim to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all job seekers.
Confidence to succeed
At Suitability by Society Matters Group, we are dedicated to providing men in the North East with the tools and confidence they need to succeed in job interviews and achieve their career aspirations.
Supporting a new beginning
Our mission is to ensure that every man has the opportunity to present their best self and secure meaningful employment.

We provide interview-ready outfits at no cost, ensuring that every man can present himself confidently.
CV and Interview Preparation
Our team offers personalised coaching to help individuals build their confidence and success in interviews.

Community and business support
The launch of Suitability by Society Matters has been made possible through the support of various community and business partners. Our launch event, held at NRG Greenbean, coincided with the launch of their new HR Services division.
This partnership reflects our shared commitment to breaking down barriers to workplace entry and promoting sustainability by reducing landfill waste through the donation of interview-ready clothing.

Suitability’s legacy
Suitability was originally founded by Darren Tate in 2018 as a Community Interest Company.
Darren’s vision was to provide free interview clothing to unemployed men across the North East, helping them to not only look good but also feel confident to succeed in their job search.
Starting from his parents’ garage, Darren supported over 100 men in 2021, with 75% of them finding work. His dedication and hard work laid the foundation for what Suitability has become today.
