Behind Closed Doors Workshop: GAMBLING

Gambling Workshop Training

*New for Autumn 2021*

Another of our Behind Closed Doors Workshop Series, this 2 hour session provides an introduction to gambling and gambling-related harm. It can be difficult to know if someone has a problem with gambling – and even if we see some signs we may not know how to respond.

According to the Gambling Commission it’s likely that 47% of people in the UK have gambled in some way in the last 4 weeks, and it’s estimated that approximately 430,000 people are suffering from compulsive gambling, with only an estimated 5% seeking help from a gambling programme or gambling rehab. This means that 95% of problem gamblers are at risk of their lives being dramatically affected, including a high prevalence of debt and depression.

So many people are affected by gambling, yet many do not open up and talk about their addiction, so they are left to suffer in silence behind closed doors. I’m keen to make sure the support is there for them – this workshop is a start”

Let’s Talk About Dementia Workshop Training

If you’d like to be a bit more familiar with dementia and the early signs of the condition, you’d like to be clear on the facts rather than the myths, and know what support is available for people and their families who are facing the condition, this 2 hour workshop training session is an ideal introduction.

This training was set at a good pace, friendly presenter and obviously very knowledgeable on the subject. I now know how to interact with clients with this condition.

Tony, Government Department

Who should attend?

This is an open session which is specifically geared to welfare professionals working in the community and voluntary sectors, local authorities, social workers, housing associations, work coaches and general welfare advisers who are supporting people facing dementia, or their families. This training will enable you to build a deeper understanding of the condition.

A follow-on workshop is also available that builds on Let’s Talk About Dementia (it’s essential you attend session 1 first please). This second session, ‘Dementia Matters’ is designed to enable you to explore the advice needs of families, available welfare benefits and how to access them, and the ways that carers can manage the affairs of someone living with dementia appropriately, and with dignity.

Informative and interesting course which makes you understand dementia in others, and help towards carers and family through support organisations.

Carol, Housing Officer
